Along with your careful observations at home, regular wellness exams from our veterinarians at Petersburg Veterinary Clinic are the best way to keep your dog or cat happy and healthy.

Wellness Exams for Dogs and Cats

During your pet’s wellness exam our veterinarians will:

• Obtain a medical history and check your pet’s vital signs
• Record your pet’s weight
• Perform a complete physical examination
• Perform a dental evaluation
• Protect your dog from infectious diseases through the judicious use of vaccines based on the age, health and environment of your pet
• Screen for the presence of parasites in blood and stool
• Recommend safe medications to eradicate parasites
• Discuss your pet’s nutritional needs and any behavioral issues
• Test your pet for heartworm disease
• Recommend heartworm and flea/tick preventatives

For New Patients

If your pet is new to our hospital, we ask that you bring his or her medical records to the first exam if possible. We also require a fresh sample of stool (no more than twelve hours old) to examine for intestinal parasites.

Preparing Your Pet for Their Visit

For the safety of your pet and the other clients and patients, please keep dogs on a leash or in a secure carrier. For the safety of your cat, they should be transported in a secure carrier. Help your cat become comfortable with the carrier during the days prior to his or her appointment with us by placing it in a room where they spend a lot of time.
